Stadiums & Shrines

DUDES are back and they have their showtime shit together this time, running fastbreaks, dishing no-looks, about to step back and release a proper EP. Now in peak form, they can handle the periphery, wink at that sideline mystery lady walkin’ on daisies. Even A.C. Green is smitten:

DUDES | WHO’S THAT LADY? (We’re All Anonymous)

NARCISSISTS ANONYMOUS is a wildly unclassifiable group, a warped variety show for new age ears, where horn-backed serenades and Iron Mike freestyles are fair game. Keep an eye on that bandcamp, airtime is near.

The Wandering Lake is Brian Kupillas, a wise young soul from Fayetteville, Arkansas. His nine odes to a minimalistic life In Passage, or in transit, speak for themselves, quite beautifully, though one did strike up further correspondence:

The Wandering Lake | Spiritland (Thank You)
The Wandering Lake | People

Brian explained that everyone and everything, all that has hand in changing his life, any “guide of sorts”, is being thanked here. Spiritland, “the most personal song” in the collection, was inspired by a Native American myth where Coyote and Eagle cross over a lake to the other side (the land of spirits), and attempt to bring back their loved ones, only to discover that such interruption is impossible.

Eyes shine like sequins in the evening, wild things run on ivory coasts… the dialogue on II is nothing short of tropic fantasy. And there’s something particularly effective about the way it ends, the way everything comes down. Thick air shifts on a drum fill, rain strums in, all doubt vaporizes with one “I do want you.”

Dream in what precedes it at bandcamp.

Just weeks ago, a Great Marble ground itself into fragmental flow—oddly serene, it was one of the most repeatable scenes to unfold in recent memory. As an untitled, wordless standalone, it could only hint at some larger, more concrete frenzy in the works. Now that initial experience can be considered “Sand” and its cycle points straight to Idiot Box, a delicately active EP of Webber-Sherman arrangements.

It sits (triple-tongue) tied in a bow at bandcamp.
